Broder were an "unlicensed" card company of the 1980s, as I understand it. They didn't last very long, but the sets they did put out have some really nice fronts. The backs, well - the backs of these are almost nonexistent. Just the person's name, a star, and a card number. The Red (maroon?) series of Baseball Stars came out in four waves of 10 each, for a total of 40 cards. I'm not going to make it collecting goal #1, but I truly wouldn't mind finding the 34 of these I don't have at some point. Here are the 6 that I was able to grab.
Oh, and if any of you experienced accumulators have anything to add re: Broder, please let us know in the comments. I'd love to know more.
I showed off the Gibson recently.
ReplyDeleteBroder isn't a company. It's a name attached to unlicensed cards (some would call them "counterfeit") issued in the late '80s/early '90s. The name comes from a photographer who took photos of players at the time and made many of these unlicensed cards (but not all of them).
Hmm, those are cool. Don't know if I need them all, but that Gooden may be worth my time to seek out!
ReplyDeleteLove these. Reminds me of the old Kenner SLU Stadium Stars.
ReplyDeleteThese are pretty cool. It would have been cooler if they had used different stadiums as the backdrop to represent each player. But if you gotta pick one... I guess Wrigley isn't a bad choice.
ReplyDeleteThese are kind of bizarre looking lol.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a LOT of Broder's over the years, but have never seen this issue before, and now after doing so, I can honestly say that it's one of the better looking ones.
ReplyDeleteYes - Stadium Stars! I love oddballs like these. Fun stuff!
